Employees at Dom Lipa Nursing Home in Mississauga voted for change by joining SEIU Local 1 Canada at a union certification vote held on Sep. 13, 2007. SEIU welcomes 71 new members into the ever-growing SEIU family.

“The workers want to improve resident care and be treated with respect and dignity,” said Jennifer Rodriguez, the Lead Organizer for the union drive. “Management now has to listen to issues and concerns in their workplace. “Forming a union gives these workers the power to address important issues in their workplace - and management has to listen.”

SEIU Local 1 Canada is an Organizing union that represents more than 46,000 health care and community services workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
