SEIU wins merger vote, welcomes new members
Thursday, June 16, 2011
On June 14, Canadian Mental Health Association employees in Chatham and Lambton-Kent voted to join SEIU, the country’s largest and fastest growing local.
The two units merged into one, and employees had to choose a union to represent them moving forward. Their choice was clear – purple power reigned victorious!
“I want to sincerely thank you for putting your trust in us, and I want you to know that I take your vote of confidence very seriously,” said Sharleen Stewart, President of SEIU Local 1 Canada. “I’m humbled and honoured to be your President and I promise that our team will always fight for your best interests.”
In the coming weeks, SEIU will work hard to ensure the new unit gets a contract they can be proud of.
“Your new SEIU family welcomes you,” added Stewart. “I invite you to get to know your new union. Our membership is incredibly diverse and vibrant, and I’m certain you will be impressed by our past victories and community initiatives.”
