Long Term Care Homes Act (PDF)
SEIU Local 1.on has been lobbying for a specific number of staff hours nursing
home residents should be entitled to on a daily basis -3.5 hours, ever since the
Conservative government in 1996 removed all standards of care.
The present government, up to January 26, 2007, has said it would not set a
new standard, despite promises made to SEIU in 2003. On January 26 it said it
would set a standard but only by regulation. Regulations to the proposed new Act
will take a long time to develop. Whether this new promise is made simply to get
the Liberals through another election remains to be seen. Do not give up in
demanding from your MPP a need for 3.5 hours of daily care per nursing home
resident.
