Sudbury Seniors and Home Care Workers Take to the Streets

Friday, March 05, 2010

Sudbury, ON - Seniors in Sudbury will join home care workers on Monday for a rally calling on Comcare, a for-profit home care agency, to provide quality care for clients and travel time for staff.

Growing numbers of elderly in Sudbury are relying on home care workers who provide care to seniors, children with disabilities, and people recently out of hospital. But clients and staff of Comcare have become increasingly concerned about quality of care. The company is forcing home care workers to pay out-of-pocket to cover mileage, fuel costs, and the travel time it takes to get from one home appointment to the next.

The Service Employees International Union Local 1 says its members can no longer afford to "pay to work" and are taking to the streets.

Event: Rally
