SEIU won a resounding win today after 82% of the employees working at Kingsway Arms at Elgin Lodge voted in favour of joining SEIU Local 1 Canada. The Local welcomes 32 new members in the union.

“It’s amazing what workers can do when they come together to improve their working conditions,” said Bastian Williams, lead organizer for the campaign.

These workers want SEIU to help address some important issues in the workplace including poor scheduling practices, big wage gaps between employees and introducing a pension for staff.

SEIU Local 1 Canada is an Organizing Union that represents more than 46,000 health care and community services workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
