Employees of Kerry’s Place Autism Services in Toronto are Stronger Together after voting to join SEIU Local 1 Canada at a certification vote on April 19, 2011.
“We’re really happy to have 130 new members join the SEIU family,” said Tyler Downey, lead organizer for the campaign. “Our new members tell us their number one issue is getting the respect they deserve from management; this will be a priority for us moving forward.”
The vote was a landslide victory, with 87 employees voting for SEIU vs. 9 against.
SEIU Local 1 Canada is an organizing union that represents more than 50,000 health care and community service workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes, and community services.
