An overwhelming majority of workers at Chartwell Park Place Manor, a retirement home in Aurora, voted to join SEIU during a certification vote held on September 9, 2009. 38 workers, which include personal support workers, dietary aides, resident attendants and an RPN, voted to join SEIU.

“Chartwell staff are fed up with management making promises they constantly failed to deliver,” said Tyler Downey, the lead organizer for the campaign. “They want SEIU to help them focus on several issues including job security, wages, pensions and most importantly – respect from management.”

SEIU Local 1 Canada is an Organizing Union that represents more than 46,000 health care and community services workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
