In Thunder Bay - 100% voted for SEIU!

In a resounding victory, Thunder Bay Chartwell Retirement Home employees voted 100% in favour of joining SEIU Local 1 Canada at a certification vote held on October 4, 2011.
“We have a group of workers who are really dedicated to their job and to the residents who live at the retirement home,” said Matt Gailitis, Lead Organizer for the campaign. “With an increased workload, you have less time to spend with residents. That’s not fair to families who are paying top dollar for quality retirement care.”
These new members are concerned about wages, increased workload, and respect to employees.
SEIU Local 1 Canada is an Organizing Union that represents more than 50,000 healthcare and community services workers in Ontario and British Columbia. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
