Staff members at Maynard Nursing Home in Toronto became members of SEIU after the results of a certification vote held on February 3, 2009.
“80 percent of the employees voted for SEIU,” said Leanne Collett-Bradshaw, lead organizer for the campaign. “SEIU will make sure managers at Maynard start addressing the issues and concerns among their staff.”
SEIU Local 1 Canada is an Organizing Union that represents more than 46,000 health care and community services workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
