Employees at Labdara Lithuanian Nursing Home in Toronto received an early holiday gift when they won a union certification vote on Dec. 17, 2007. 80 workers are now members of SEIU Local 1 Canada, the fastest growing union in Ontario.

“SEIU supporters braved the winter weather and came to the polls to vote for a union in their workplace,” said Rabia Syed, the Lead Organizer for the workers’ union drive. “We were able to form a union in this nursing home in only three short weeks. I am very happy with what these workers have accomplished.”

SEIU Local 1 Canada is an Organizing union that represents more than 46,000 health care and community services workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
