SEIU Local 1 Canada recently won a certification vote by 72 per cent at a Comcare Health Services branch in Sudbury on November 10, 2008. SEIU welcomes 81 new members into the Local.
"The workers won the vote by a big margin," said Richard Dade, the lead for the Organizing drive. "The help of 10 SEIU Member Organizers, who spoke to employees about how they could use worker power to improve their workplace, made the difference."
The Organizing drive also received support from SEIU Canada’s national campaign Running on Empty, which is shedding light on the tough working conditions home care workers endure on the job.
SEIU Local 1 Canada is an Organizing Union that represents more than 46,000 health care and community services workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
