Thirty-five employees at Abbeylawn Manor Retirement Home in Pickering joined SEIU Local 1 Canada at a union vote on April 3, 2008.

“This gives Abbeylawn employees the power to negotiate work issues with their employer,” said Rabia Syed, the Lead Organizer in the campaign.

SEIU Local 1 Canada an Organizing Union who represents more than 46,000 health care and community services workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
