Employees at Port Perry Nursing Home voted to join SEIU at a certification vote on Wednesday, October 14. SEIU Local 1 Canada welcomes 36 housekeeping, laundry and dietary aides into the union.

“It’s time for management to start respecting workers who have seniority and stop employee favouritism,” said Tyler Downey, the lead organizer for the campaign. “SEIU will also try to stop the employer from laying off workers and cutting their hours.”

SEIU Local 1 Canada is an Organizing Union that represents more than 46,000 health care and community services workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes and community services.
