Representing hospital workers
SEIU Local 1 Canada is the union of choice for over 17,000 hospital workers in Ontario.
Nurses, lab technicians, many other allied health care professionals, clerical, maintenance, and building services workers have all chosen SEIU Local 1 Canada to negotiate better wages, benefits, job security, safer working conditions and manageable workloads.
While their have been major gains since SEIU organized its first Ontario hospital in 1946, when no other union would meet the challenge, there are still many wins to achieve and SEIU’s hospital members continue the struggle to ensure their voices are heard.
Our hospital workers are also our country’s leading defenders of our hospitals operating in a universally-accessible and publicly-funded health system as the best way to guarantee high levels of patient care regardless of a patient’s income.
SEIU Local 1 Canada has taken a strong stand against cutting hospital spending, Public-Private Partnerships (P3s) and privatizing health care services.
