SEIU Local 1 Canada’s bargaining team are rolling up their sleeves and getting ready to negotiate a new contract for over 16,000 SEIU members working in nursing homes.
“We have some heavy-hitters on our bargaining team,” said Ricardo McKenzie, SEIU’s servicing lead for the long-term care sector. “Wages are priority number 1. Another big goal is to deliver a new and better deal for part-time workers.”
An important issue SEIU wants resolved is a better way to provide vacation pay to part-time employees.
Bargaining begins on Thursday, July 28 in Toronto. Negotiations will continue for several weeks until September.
