SEIU raises money to ship medical supplies to the Caribbean

Monday, March 07, 2011

SEIU’s Multi-Faith and Community Network (SMCN) raised over $700 during a Casino Rama charity trip on Friday, March 4. This money will be used to ship wheelchairs and other medical supplies to hospitals and poor houses in Jamaica and Grenada.

The bus trip to Casino Rama was a blast! Raffles and prizes were given away to SEIU members. A few people won big dividends at the casino as well. See the action here.

But the job isn’t finished yet! SEIU still needs a little more of your support to ensure these supplies reach the Caribbean. You can help by attending our upcoming Spring Solidarity Gala fundraiser on Saturday April 2nd, 2011 at 6 p.m. at the Days Hotel on 1677 Wilson Ave in Toronto. Tickets are only $50 and we hope to see you there!

Tickets are limited and will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Contact Urz Heer at 416-809-0699 or u.heer@seiulocal1.org to purchase your ticket today!

The SMCN extends a special thanks to Yvonne Richards, Eulalee Thompson, Nathalee Thompson, Angela Sterread, and Beverly Baptiste for their help in organizing the trip. Executive Vice President Emmanuel Carvalho also joined us at the casino.

This money includes the generous donations from the staff at SEIU Local 1 Canada. The SMCN also extends a special thanks to SEIU Union Representative Michael Philips who joined us on the trip.
