Employees at Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care - Scarborough Finch voted to join SEIU Local 1 Canada at a certification vote held on January 11, 2011. SEIU welcomes over 250 new members into the union.
“This is the fourth Yee Hong nursing home to join SEIU in the past five months,” said Rabia Syed, lead organizer for the campaign. “Over 800 Yee Hong employees have joined SEIU.”
Some of the issues to be addressed at the bargaining table are wages, benefits, scheduling and respect in the workplace.
SEIU Local 1 Canada is an organizing union that represents more than 50,000 health care and community service workers in Ontario. Its members work in hospitals, home care, nursing and retirement homes, and community services.
