Toys R’ SEIU!

Toy Story

Over the festive season many of our SEIU members decided spread some holiday cheer and hosted many events to connect with various community groups and donate toys for children. SEIU members at Craiglee’s Nursing Home and Baycrest Hospital in Toronto along with Southlake hospital in Newmarket all had very successful toy drives donated some wonderful toys to underprivileged families.

Craiglee employee and SEIU member Elaine Budd and several of her co-workers heard about Toronto City Councillor Janet Davis’ toy drive for low-income children in the neighbourhood.

Elaine and her co-workers sprung to action and contacted SEIU’s Multi-Faith & Community Network. Together, in cooperation with Janet Davis’ office, Craiglee employees and management, they raised nearly 100 toys!

Roudlyn Henry had the vision for the drive Drive at Southlake hospital while New SMCN Members Linda Ball, Christine Daly, Carrie Dawson executed the Holiday Toy with precision.

Over 100 toys collected at Southlake, with 3 large boxes of toys going to the Rose of Sharon Services for Young Mothers  Sita Reis, an SEIU member at Baycrest and member of the Network, came up with the idea to begin the Toy Drive tradition. New SMCN members Manny De Bem and Yvette Frances joined Sita in ensuring the success. Families at the June Callwood Centre were very happy to receive the toys.

The SMCN was created to help, assist and support members of our communities through compassion, education and the love that we all share through the generosity of all our community partners. With a vision to be a catalyst for social justice, SEIU members go beyond the workplace to make the world a better place.
